BBG consulting structural engineers have conducted thousands of seismic risk assessments of commercial properties in the seismically active regions of North and South America, Canada, and the U.S. Virgin Island Territories. BBG provides a suiite of Seismic Risk, Structural Engineering, Seismic Retrofit consulting solutions. Our clients include lenders, owners, buyers, sellers, attorneys, and insurance companies.

Seismic Risk Assessment (SRA)

SRA reports are an effective tool for all stakeholders in the commercial real estate business to quantify regional seismic hazards and the potential earthquake damage and associated financial loss and downtime. BBG SRA reports are prepared using the ASTM E2016 Guide and E2557 Standard Practice and can include most client-directed scope requirements. Our services and clients include:

  • Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (agency) +  ASTM and agency portfolio assessments
  • HUD ASCE 41 evaluations +  GSA/DGS ASCE 41 evaluations
  • Mortgage lender ASTM SRA reports +  Equity acquisition / disposition reports

Structural Condition Assessment (SCA)

SCA reports document the existing structural condition of a variety of systems and are provided as stand-alone or with equity PCA reports. The scopes of SCA reports includes deteriorated structural evaluation, condition assessment with immediate and capital costs for operation, structural failure assessments, and California SB 721 exterior elevated elements (EEE) assessment.

Structural Engineering Design and Seismic Retrofit

As a companion to our SRA and SCA assessment services, BBG engineers have decades of experience in the seismic retrofit of all construction classes, deteriorated structure remediation design, EEE design replacements. Our engineering design experience and capability provided added value to clients with owning, buying, or placing financing on commercial assets.

Seismic Risk Policy and Third Party Peer Review

BBG provides seismic risk consulting for lender seismic policy (ASTM, Fannie, Freddie, HUD) and third party peer review services for lenders and owners who do not have in-house technical experts.

Mr. Marrow leads the seismic group and brings more than two decades of experience in structural engineering and seismic risk consulting. His expertise focuses on structural design for new and existing buildings, seismic risk assessments, structural/ forensic investigations and litigation consulting, and construction engineering.

Throughout his career, Mr. Marrow has conducted several thousand site-specific and portfolio seismic risk assessments. His experience includes forensics and litigation consulting, such as investigations into structural failures, construction and defect and budget analysis, and reviews of insurance claims for residential and commercial structures.

Mr. Marrow has participated in building code development committees for national and regional building code standards, served as the technical chair for a task group on seismic risk assessments, and authored seismic policies for lenders, investors and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
