Radon measurement is used to determine if there is a need for mitigation and to evaluate the success of a mitigation system.

What is Radon?

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is odorless, colorless and tasteless.  Radon comes from the natural (radioactive) decay of uranium in the soil, rock and water, which gets into the air you breathe.  Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and the second leading cause of lung cancer in the general population.  Radon in U.S. homes causes approximately 21,000 lung cancer deaths each year. Be it at home, work, or school, an individual’s exposure to radon gas combines over time to increase the risk of preventable lung cancer.

Why do we test for Radon?

Indoor radon levels are driven by natural rock formations below a building’s foundations.  Similarly, constructed buildings located next to each other and even adjacent apartment units can have drastically different indoor radon levels.  The level of radon gas in a given room depends on available pathways for radon to enter the building, such as cracks, seams, or penetrations in concrete floors and foundations.  Radon can be found all over the U.S. within any type of building – homes, offices, and schools.  The EPA recommends that all buildings be tested for radon.

Reliable Results

BBG is focused on providing our Clients with quality radon measurements, following nationally recognized standards, while adhering to quality assurance protocols.  BBG provides accurate measurements by qualified professionals who are nationally certified by the National Radon Proficiency Program (NRPP) and State licensed, where applicable.
