Valuation Leadership Team

Grant Griffin, MAI is the President of Valuation overseeing all valuation operations. He has 19 years’ experience in the commercial real estate valuation and advisory industry. Mr. Griffin initially joined BBG as a Senior Managing Director overseeing expansion of the southeastern region, which organically grew head count by eight-fold and revenue by more than 30-fold. He opened new offices in Charlotte, Nashville, Raleigh, Charleston, Richmond, Huntsville, Louisville, Pensacola and Gulfport. An acquisition was made for the Jackson, Memphis, Little Rock and Fayetteville offices.
Prior to joining BBG, he was a Vice President at CBRE Valuation and Advisory Services covering the southeast and made top-producers recognition in 2015. Prior to that role, he worked for Appraisal Group in Virginia and Tillman, Allen, and Sizemore in Alabama.

Mary Ann Barnett, MAI
Senior Managing Director
Affordable Multifamily Practice Leader
Mary Ann is the Senior Managing Director of the Dallas office and an expert in affordable and commercial product lines. She is a Partner at BBG and has extensive experience in commercial real estate valuation. She has significant expertise with multi-family valuation, feasibility, and market studies of conventional and affordable properties. She also has extensive experience in the valuation of condominiums, single-family subdivisions, and hotels. Mary Ann manages BBG’s multi-family, HUD oriented, and affordable housing work. She has particular expertise in LIHTC and HUD MAP financed multi-family housing.

Owen Bartels is a Senior Managing Director with BBG in the Portland, Oregon office and he oversees the West Coast Regions strategic initiatives. He was the 2017 President of the Greater Oregon chapter of the Appraisal Institute. Owen began his commercial real estate career with the Tacoma, Washington, Kidder Mathews office in 2001 working as a researcher and financial analyst for industrial properties. He began his appraisal career in 2003 with the Vancouver, Washington, office of PGP Valuation (now Colliers), and became a Certified General Appraiser in both Oregon and Washington in 2006. He is a Member of the Appraisal Institute.
Owen has appraised properties in cities and towns throughout the Northwest, including southern Oregon, central Washington, the Puget Sound region, both the Oregon and Washington coasts and, of course, throughout the Portland metro area. Appraisal work includes industrial, retail, office, mixed use, both commercial and residential condominium conversions, subdivisions, partial acquisitions, corridors, and specialized consulting projects. Owen has recently expanded his work in Eminent Domain, including work for both public agencies and property owners. Clients include lenders, development companies, government agencies, and private parties.
Owen is involved in local professional organization leadership, serving as President of the Greater Oregon chapter of the Appraisal Institute after four years chairing the Government Affairs committee. He has also been one of the Greater Oregon Chapter’s representatives in Washington DC for the Leadership Development Advisory Committee (LDAC). In 2014 he was awarded the Outstanding Service and Leadership Award by his local Appraisal Institute chapter. In 2015 he received the President’s Service Award for contributions to the chapter.
In addition, Owen is a member of the Government Affairs committee of the Oregon Mortgage Bankers Association (OMBA) and of the International Right of Way Association’s Beaver State Chapter (Chapter 3).

Brian T. Bryant is Senior Managing Director at BBG in the Charlotte office. Mr. Bryant entered the real estate business in 1994 as a staff commercial appraiser working with multiple firms. In 2003, Mr. Bryant started Bryant & Rutledge, where he was a partner/owner. During his time with Bryant & Rutledge, he appraised a wide-variety of property types for a variety of clients and developed a specialty in eminent domain appraisal assignments.
Mr. Bryant has appraisal experience with many property types including vacant land/lots (residential and commercial), single-family and multifamily residential, single and multi-tenant industrial (manufacturing facilities, service garages, office/warehouses, etc.), single and multi-tenant office (general and medical office), single and multi-tenant retail (banks, gas marts, shopping centers, restaurants, drugstores, etc.), mixed-use developments and subdivision development (single-family, commercial, and condominium subdivisions developments). He also has expertise in condemnation appraising, including court testimony.

Jon is currently a Senior Managing Director in New York City, offering 17 years of experience analyzing all major property types throughout the Tri-State Area. Developing a specialty in Market Analysis, Jon has built a broad client base and has completed assignments conducted on behalf of foreign and domestic investment firms including major RETIS, leading financial institutions, individual investors, leading law firms, and government agencies. He has been admitted as an expert witness in the New York State Supreme Court (NY County) and has prepared numerous assignments in support of litigation.
Jon began his career as an appraiser in 2001. Gaining training and education, Jon joined Neglia Appraisals in Brooklyn as a commercial appraiser. Later, he was an Assistant Vice President at Sovereign Bank, where he served on the management team of the Appraisal Department. Jon joined Leitner Group (now BBG) in 2007.
In the last few years, Jon has consistently been the top producer while running the in-house training Program and specializing in multi-family appraisals and portfolios. Continuing his commitment to the professional development of the next generation, Jon serves as Chairman of the Internship Committee of American Immobiliare, a not-for-profit organization based in New York City which provides a forum for professionals in commercial real estate, and serves on the Board of the Metro NY Chapter of the Appraisal Institute.
Assignments of note include: 7 World Trade Center, a 52-story Class-A office building; 650 Fifth Avenue, Nike’s new global flagship store; Hallett’s Point, a seven building, 2.4 million square foot multi-use development.

Phillip Hanshew implements strategic initiatives and expansion efforts in Northern California and the Pacific Northwest. He is responsible for all aspects of marketing and bids, production and review, and training and recruitment. His personal practice emphasizes legal support in property tax and eminent domain matters.

Eric Hoening, MAI is a Senior Managing Director in Florida for BBG covering key MSAs including Tampa Bay, Orlando, Southwest Florida, Jacksonville, North Florida and the panhandle, and the Florida Keys. He has over 25 years of experience in the real estate industry specializing in valuation, financial analysis, consultation, complex sensitivity modeling, discounted cash flow analysis, real estate and tangible tax appeals, market and feasibility studies, highest and best use analyses, and appraisal review.
Preceding BBG, Eric was the Director of Valuation and Advisory Services for JBM Institutional Multifamily Advisors where his primary responsibilities included sourcing asset dispositions, financial analysis, underwriting for existing apartment investments, new construction, land development opportunities and fractured condominiums. These skills were integral in the developing of BOV (Broker Opinion of Value) proposals, offering memorandums and dynamic marketing campaigns. Other responsibilities included tracking development pipelines, construction, operational trends and disposition activity. Another key role is as a transaction manager coordinating between buyer and seller throughout the engagement, marketing, due diligence, closing and post-closing periods. During this 2.5-year tenure, Eric was directly involved in transaction activity that totaled approximately 16,000 multifamily units and a volume of $1.65 billion.
Other previous experience includes senior appraiser positions at Tropical Realty Appraisal Services, Gillis & Associates and R/E Marketing Consultants. Each of these Florida based firms focused on valuation and consultation of every segment of real estate including multifamily, retail, hospitality, office, industrial, special purpose properties, and all types of vacant land. Engagements ranged traditional fee-based appraisals and consultations to complex eminent domain and litigation assignments.

Susan Kominski has extensive experience in valuation, investment analysis and financing. She is currently a Senior Managing Director at BBG. Her diversified background includes a wide range of applications including commercial real estate valuations, portfolio valuations, real estate analysis, capital markets finance, mortgage loan underwriting, corporate real estate advisory and management consulting. These activities have been conducted on behalf of major financial institutions, major corporations, individual investors, and legal firms. In addition, Susan’s expertise also includes a significant appraisal management practice, including assisting clients with developing scope of work requirements. Susan has a deep understanding of capital markets underwriting parameters, enabling her to provide an improved process between appraisal firms and lenders.

Kenneth Konrath, MAI is a Senior Managing Director at BBG in the Chicago office. His expertise is in real estate valuation and advisory services. Ken’s responsibilities include: advisory, quality control, business development, client management and appraisal review.
Prior to joining BBG, Ken served as the Chief Appraiser and Senior Vice President at Ohio’s FirstMerit Bank. Ken was responsible for management of the appraisal and environmental review divisions. Responsibilities included credit risk advisory, implementation of appraisal and environment policies, oversight of all commercial and residential valuations and product development.
During his time at FirstMerit, Ken managed a commercial and residential appraisal and environmental staff located throughout the Midwest. The commercial department was responsible for the appraisal and environmental management of 4,000+ orders annually while the residential department was responsible for 20,000+ appraisals annually.

Paul E. Ping, MAI is a Senior Managing Director at BBG in the Denver office. His expertise is in real estate valuation and advisory services. With almost 40 years of valuation and consulting experience, Paul leads our program for Evaluations and other unique valuation solutions for clients.
With his wide range of experience and knowledge of federal banking and regulatory guidance, Mr. Ping coordinates the Evaluation of commercial real estate for a large and diverse clientele throughout the Americas.
Prior to joining BBG, Paul served as Executive Vice President of National Alternative Valuation for CBRE. Before CBRE, Paul spent six years as the National Director of Alternative Valuation at Cushman & Wakefield, eleven years as Senior Vice President and Chief Appraiser for Huntington Bank and six years as Chief Appraiser for PNC Bank. Before joining the banking industry Paul was a Senior Manager and leader of the Dallas office of PriceWaterhouse’s Valuation and Consulting Group.

John Praytor serves as Executive Director. He has been actively engaged in real estate valuation and consulting since 1987. John offers extensive experience in the valuation of regional malls, community/neighborhood shopping centers, office buildings – CBD and suburban, warehouse/distribution, multi-family (including CBD condominium development), hotels and motels, vacant land and special purpose properties. His clients include banks and financial institutions, developers and investors, law firms, business/industry and government, and mortgage bankers. His valuations have been complete for condemnation, estate and financing purposes. John’s experience is concentrated in metropolitan properties including office buildings, industrial buildings, apartments, senior housing, shopping centers, convenience stores, health facilities, condemnation, and litigation support.

Rodman Schley serves as Senior Managing Director at BBG as part of the Executive Team. Prior to joining BBG, he was President of Commercial Valuation Consultants, which was acquired by BBG in 2016, and was based in Denver, Colorado.
Rodman has been a commercial appraiser since 1998, and has been a highly active member within the Appraisal Institute at a local, state and national level. He has served as an Appraisal Institute board member on both a state and national level, and is currently serving as Vice President of the national organization. He is the National President in 2021, and the Outgoing President in 2022. With his duties on the Executive Team of the Appraisal Institute, Rodman travels extensively throughout the US (and internationally) speaking to appraisers about personally evolving within a fast-paced industry.
As an entrepreneur, and now with BBG, he has always focused on bringing the highest quality products to clients, with exceptional customer service. He found these fundamentals to be foundational for achieving exponential growth in the marketplace. He also focuses on building strong relationships nationally and internationally and is always working hard to have a true understanding of the client’s needs, and then delivering.

Matthew Wood, MAI, MRICS, is Senior Managing Director at the Boston office. With more than 20 years of experience across a broad base of commercial property types, he is responsible for leading BBG’s office in Boston and expansion elsewhere in the New England region.
Throughout his career, Mr. Wood has worked with a wide client base including banks and other financial institutions, investors, law firms, special servicers, government agencies, as well as providing expert witness testimony in front of the Appellate Tax Board and dispute resolution work. His past assignments in New England included high-end mixed-use, office, retail, residential and other developments.
Mr. Wood’s appraisal career covers North America, Australia, the Middle East and North Africa. He has specialized in appraisal and valuation services for hospitality, retail, industrial, educational, specialized asset types, self-storage, and multifamily sectors. Mr. Wood also has expertise in the acquisition and divestment of real estate assets, fund and asset management, property development and corporate finance and governance.
Prior to joining BBG, Mr. Wood served as Executive Vice President on CBRE’s valuation and advisory services team in Boston for nearly a decade. At CBRE, Mr. Wood was consistently ranked as one of the firm’s top U.S. producers. He also has held senior-level positions with Colliers International and other real estate firms.
Mr. Wood is a certified general appraiser in several New England states, a designated member of the Appraisal Institute, a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, and an associate of the Australian Property Institute. He has received academic degrees in business and property management from RMIT University and the University of South Australia.

John serves as Senior Managing Director at BBG. He previously served as President of the full service real estate appraisal and consulting firm of Aaron & Wright Incorporated. John has been involved in real estate appraising and consulting since 1983. His experience includes the preparation of narrative appraisal reports on virtually all types of commercial real estate, reviewing commercial appraisal reports, and consulting.

Brandon Davis, MAI, CCIM is a Managing Director at BBG in the Dallas office. Mr. Davis is responsible for management, client liaison, business development, appraisal production, and training.
Mr. Davis’ experience encompasses a wide range of commercial real estate engagements for local and national clients for a variety of purposes. Engagement experience includes asset valuation for funds, financing, estate taxation, ad valorem taxation, purchase price allocation, fresh start accounting, lease accounting, and net asset valuation. He has appraised numerous property types, including office, industrial, retail, vacant land, multi-family, residential, data center, and special purpose facilities. Mr. Davis has completed assignments throughout North America and Europe, and has experience managing large portfolio assignments. His experience ranges from high-density CBD developments to low-density agricultural land uses.
Prior to joining BBG, Mr. Davis was a Managing Director with CBRE where he was responsible for client management and business development.
Prior to joining CBRE, Mr. Davis managed valuations for the central region at KPMG. He was responsible for sales and management of valuations for national and international real property acquisitions and business combinations. Additionally, Mr. Davis served as a real property expert for audit, tax, and advisory groups within KPMG.
